Communication Madness

Last text message sent from my cell phone is "Dave's not dead". There were rumors going around that my neighbor was murdered in cold blood. Good thing that turned out not to be true. Thanks to my handy dandy cellphone this news was communicated to my roommate at the speed of light thereby giving him peace of mind for the remainder of the day.

But what happens when bad news breaks at such speed? Misery spreads just as fast. You'll get caught up in a maelstrom of bad feelings in places you are ill equipped to deal with them. Before cellphones you probably got most bad news in the comfort of your own home or the home of a close friend or relative. Now you can be at the bus stop and you can enjoy an emotional breakdown on the ride back to your apartment with the company of strangers.
